CAMBRIDGE CURRICULUM

CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL ASSESSMENT FOR EDUCATION (CI)

At Reddam House Durbanville we are thrilled to be able to offer our Preparatory and College students unique access to the Cambridge International Assessment for Education (CI) (Cambridge International) curriculum.

The Cambridge International curriculum is offered in 160 countries around the world and is continuously moderated and improved by the Cambridge University Education faculty. In South Africa, there are over 100 Cambridge International centres offering this excellent education. It is one of the most widely respected secondary school curricula in the world, and is internationally benchmarked and recognised for academic excellence and an emphasis on creative and independent thinking. The Cambridge International (CI) curriculum is based on a set of common principles underpinned by the best educational and assessment practice; quality and coherence delivered through the curriculum with guaranteed assessment standards and high-quality resources underpinned by sound training and professional development. The curriculum continues to be developed and rigorously tested by the Education Faculty at Cambridge University.

In the senior phase, CI has two main assessments, namely IGCSE and AS/A-Levels. These exams are usually taken in grade 10 and grade 12 respectively. The results of these internationally set, run and marked exams are transferable and accepted in every major university in the world

WHY CAMBRIDGE INTERNATIONAL?

At Reddam House Durbanville we recognise our obligation as educators to offer students internationally-recognised learning platforms that open doors and further opportunities. In our fast-changing world where globalisation is set to stay, there are key skills that should be taught at school level. And so, to best equip the scholars of today, education needs to focus its outcomes on these concepts. This is where the curriculum, the syllabus, and what is delivered in the classroom becomes critical. We have therefore made the Cambridge International curriculum available in addition to the South African IEB (Independent Examinations Board) curriculum at our school.

A Cambridge International qualification comes with an impressive reputation that will assist your child in pursuing their goals:

  • Syllabi develop a deep understanding of subjects as well as fostering independent thinking skills. They also greatly increase students’ chances of gaining acceptance into the international or South African university of their choice.
  • Over 1,400 universities worldwide recognise Cambridge qualifications. They are accepted by every UK university, by 600 universities in the US (including all Ivy League universities) and in many other major student destinations including Canada, Australia, Singapore, Germany and the Netherlands, as well as South Africa.
  • Universities and employers recognise these qualifications as evidence of academic achievement. They understand that the demand of our curricula and the rigor of the assessments give students what they need to flourish in higher education.

CAMBRIDGE QUALIFICATIONS

From 2014-2017, research showed that 95% of Cambridge International A Level students who applied to UK higher education institutions were offered places, according to new research by UCAS, the UK Universities and Colleges Admissions Service.

ADMISSIONS OFFICERS RATE CAMBRIDGE HIGHLY

Students who have taken Cambridge International A Levels are better placed than most other students. Between 2014-2017, the number of Cambridge International A Level students applying to study in the UK almost doubled, as did the number of students who were offered places.

STUDENT RESULTS

Since launching the Cambridge International Education programme in 2006, Reddam House Durbanville students have made remarkable achievements in the last 10 years that we have written these examinations. To date, we are in the Top 5 Best Achieving Cambridge International Schools in South Africa among the over 100 Cambridge International centres in our country. This is no small feat and speaks of the high level of education delivered at our school.
